I Haven’t Met You Yet: A Poem

I haven’t met you yet

But your coos have left a ghostly imprint on my ears

I see your soft, dewy skin

Textured in infantile sweat and breast milk

Your tendrils lay like an ewe lambs fur

Soft and warm

I haven’t met you yet

But the love in your eyes hauntingly follows me

Longing in your stare, need in your gaze

Ah, your gaze

Perfect, curious, new

I haven’t met you yet

But your smile peaks like the sun at dawn

Bright and shy

Unborn to the world

I haven’t met you yet

But to hold you was surreal

Bundle of warmth with a beating heart

You temporarily gave me that joy

Of being a mother

The promise

I haven’t met you yet

But perhaps

You will return to me

Yet again

In my dreams.
